DIRECTORATE GENERAL
- Look after the administrative affairs of employees of Local Government Department.
- Facilitates the implementation of foreign aided project.
- Public Sector Development Project of Local Government Sector.

FUNCTIONS/ DUTIES OF DIRECTOR GENERAL LOCAL GOVERNMENT PROVINCIAL LEVEL)
- Being head of the attached department Director General is the Incharge of Local Government and Rural Development Department at Provincial Level with overall administrative control of the Secretary, Local Government Department.
- Implement Government policies and assist Government in formulation of policies.
- Appointing authority for the officials of BPS1 to 15 in the Department.
- Authority to transfer the officials from BPS-I to 15 with the approval of Government.
- Initiate proposals for the posting/transfer of officers BPS-16 and above officers to the Government.
- Monitors various Development Programmes implemented by department and submits periodical progress reports to the Government.
- Prepare budgets for the Department and distributes the Development and Non-Development funds received from the Government to the subordinates’ offices (i.e Director, Assistant Director and Development Officer Offices).
- Reconciliation of expenditure incurred by the department with Accountant General.
- Implement and monitor the project funded by the Federal or Provincial Government or any other agency.
- Submit progress report to the Government regarding Development activities in the department.
- Conduct Annual and special inspection of the Local Councils and Local Government institution in the Province and submit his report to the Government.
- Conduct on his own initiative or, whenever so directed by the Government, an inquiry by himself or through any officer in any matter concerning Local Government Department.
- Direct the Audit authority to arrange special audit of any Local Government office.
- Conduct periodical meetings of all concerned subordinates offices/NGO’s or other donor agencies in order to monitor and coordinate various Development activities.
- Prepare Annual performance report and suggest measures for the improvement of the working of the department and submits it to the Government.
- Conduct consultation meetings regarding planning and preparation of Annual Development Plan of the Department.
- Reporting Officer for the Annual Confidential Reports of Directors working in the Division.
- Inspecting officer for all the Local Councils and other Development Projects implemented by the department in the Province.
- Countersigning Officer for the TA bills of Directors.
- Technical vetting of estimates of all the Development Projects.
