Brief on Rural Development Academy Balochistan Quetta
Introduction:
Rural Development Academy (RDA) is a provincial training institute working under the administrative control of Local Government and Rural Development Department, Government of Balochistan.
At present Academy impart in-service/pre-service training to official of Local Government and other Nation Building Departments in the Province. A variety of training courses are designed for the Trainees. Most of the training are held in the Rural Development Academy complex. In addition some of the courses are conducted at Districts, Tehsils and Union Council level. The Rural Development Academy in collaboration with National Reconstruction Bureau has completed numerous trainings besides collaborating with UNDP Projects like Women Political School, Gender Based Governance Systems, AGRP-B, (RAHA) RAA as well as with other NGOs, BRSP & IDO.
History:
This institution was established in 1972 with the purpose of meeting the training requirements of then Integrated Rural Development Program, members of the Village Councils, Markaz Council and Cooperative Societies in Balochistan. With the introduction of Local Councils System in Pakistan in 1979, the scope of training was also enhanced, therefore, training of elected councilors was also included in the Academy’s training program.
Support and collaboration with other Agencies:
The Trainers and officials of Academy supported different agencies and organizations in conduction of training providing technical and logistical support e.g. providing technical services/resource persons conducting training on different topics particularly on Local Government and providing them the training halls and accommodation support as well as Academy have collaboration with National & Provincial Local Government Training Institutes i.e. Pakistan Academy for Rural Development Peshawar (PARD), National Centre for Rural Development Islamabad (NCRD), All Provincial Local Government Training Institutes (LGTIs), UNDP, UNICEF & NGOs
Conclusion:
The Academy is working in field of capacity development and has conducted trainings for various target groups under different topics in limited resources. It has close coordination from communities, union councils to provincial government. It has sufficient infrastructure for trainings, workshops seminars and other development activities.
It has been planned to initiate programs and projects to strengthen the Academy that it may play a vital role in strengthening the Local Government departments, officials and Local Representatives. And build coordination & partnership with agencies working for the development of province. The Academy will extend its support to agencies, programs and projects working in the same area and encourage the programs to overcome the mentioned deficiencies.
Objectives:
The main objective of the Rural Development Academy Balochistan is to develop human resources, which serves as a framework for each government and agency responsible for community development. Rural Development Academy Balochistan believes that by providing quality trainings to the staff of nation building departments, public representatives and non-governmental organization in various fields, to keep themselves abreast with new developments and requirements of the modern era.
